2020 Chamber Holiday Food Drive - Success!
Thank you to the Food Drive Sponsors, Community Partners and Donors
You've heard that saying..."it takes a village" and in a pandemic, it takes a community coming together to support the most vulnerable individuals. Community coming together is the story of the 2020 Chamber Foundation Holiday Food Drive. In fact, 2020 was the first food drive the Chamber has ever hosted and it will not be the last!
It's difficult to fathom that LGBTQ+ Seniors do not have food for the holidays (or any time of year for that matter) and especially during a pandemic. Did you know that 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ people experience food insecurity? And, that was before the pandemic. Recognizing the devastating impacts of the pandemic on the LGBTQ+ community and the desperate need, the Chamber launched the Holiday Food Drive as part of our ChamberCares initiative and stepped up to help LGBTQ+ Seniors. With the pandemic this year, the Chamber transitioned its focus during the 2020 holiday season to those who need us most during this difficult time.
The Chamber Holiday Food Drive included both a drop-off and virtual food drive. The Chamber selected non-profit Chamber member, the Montrose Center as our non-profit partner for the Holiday Food Drive with the goal of filling up holiday baskets for LGBTQ+ Seniors.
With almost 20 Sponsors, 11 Community Partners and 90 individual donors, we made a tremendous difference for our LGBTQ+ Seniors this holiday season. Through the 2020 Chamber Foundation Holiday Food Drive over $18,000.00 was raised through direct donations and in-kind donations in support of the Montrose Center.
Of course, this incredible amount does not include the many donations of food from individuals who were able to Drive-Thru and Drop-Off FOR GOOD. The food donation is the largest donation that the Montrose Center has EVER received.
Because of the Chamber Holiday Food Drive, the Montrose Center was able to:

Because of the Chamber Holiday Food Drive, the Montrose Center was able to:
- Increase the number of meals in each of the holiday food boxes from 15 to 25 shelf stable meals
- Provide food for both the Montrose Center's Outreach & COVID Pantries extending support to LGBTQ+ Seniors quarantining and even more clients in need
- Ensure The Montrose Center's COVID pantry, which was virtually depleted after Thanksgiving, can stay open throughout the remainder of the pandemic (serving approximately 100 shelf stable meals a week)
These results are truly a story of giving this holiday season!
Thank you to our Anchor Sponsor, SignatureCare ER and Title Sponsor, Amegy Bank, for partnering with the Chamber Foundation on the food drive. We are proud to call both organizations Chamber Corporate Partners. We appreciate our many Sponsors, Community Partners and donors. Thank you for helping us make a difference for LGBTQ+ Seniors during the 2020 Holiday Season!
