A Decade of Conviction: Reflections on 10 Years of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce
Ten years ago today, we launched the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce.
Not with certainty.
Not with guarantees.
But with conviction.
It was an idea born from a simple but powerful belief: that the LGBTQ+ community deserved to be seen, valued, and represented at the tables where economic decisions are made. That our businesses, professionals, and entrepreneurs deserved visibility, opportunity, and inclusion within the broader economic ecosystem of Greater Houston.

At the time, there was no roadmap. There was only purpose.
I am deeply honored to have co-founded the Chamber alongside Gary Wood and to have stood with an extraordinary Founding Leadership Council who helped bring this vision to life during those early days. Before there was momentum, before there was proof of concept, there were people who believed. People who stepped forward, often without knowing what the outcome would be, and said, this matters.
Their belief laid the foundation for everything that followed.
A Decade Tested by Challenge — and Strengthened by Community
Over the past decade, our Chamber has faced moments that could have stopped us. Political headwinds. Natural disasters. A global pandemic that disrupted businesses and isolated communities. Economic uncertainty. Moments that forced difficult decisions and tested our resolve.
There were times when it would have been easier to pause. Easier to retreat.
Recently, someone asked me, “How is it that you didn’t give up with so many challenges over the past ten years?”
The answer is simple.
Community.
This work was never about one person. It was — and always will be — about all of us. It is about the entrepreneurs building their dreams. The professionals seeking inclusive workplaces. The companies choosing to stand visibly in support of equality. The partners and allies who understand that economic inclusion strengthens our entire region.
I often describe this work as a mission match — the rare privilege of doing work that aligns completely with your purpose. Work that challenges you, sustains you, and reminds you why it matters, even on the hardest days. It is a privilege I do not take for granted.
And I have never done this work alone.
I am surrounded by extraordinary people — a dedicated team and a committed board whose belief in this mission, and whose willingness to lead, serve, and show up every day, have made everything we’ve built possible. Their leadership, heart, and courage continue to move this work forward.
Giving up was never an option. Moving our community forward is the only path.

From Vision to Impact
Today, ten years later, we are stronger than we ever imagined.
We have created space where none existed.
We have opened doors that were once closed.
We have helped ensure that LGBTQ+ and allied businesses, professionals, and community members are seen, valued, and included.
We have built relationships. Expanded opportunities. Elevated visibility. And helped shape a more inclusive and equitable economic future for our region.
And yet, this milestone is not an endpoint.
It is a beginning.
Because while I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together over the past decade, I know with certainty that we are just getting started.
Gratitude — and an Invitation to the Future
I am grateful beyond words to do this work. Grateful for every member, every partner, every sponsor, every volunteer, and every person who has stood with us over these past ten years. Your belief, your engagement, and your leadership have made this Decade of Impact possible.
Anniversaries are not only about reflecting on how far we’ve come. They are about recommitting to where we are going.
The future of this Chamber — and the future of LGBTQ+ economic inclusion in Greater Houston — will be shaped by those who choose to be part of it.
