Ross’s decision to serve on the Chamber’s Board reflects both his professional mission and his personal commitment to community. As the Managing Shareholder of Gonzalez Olivieri LLC, Ross brings deep experience in immigration law and advocacy, representing individuals, families, and businesses navigating complex immigration matters.
For Ross, leadership is grounded in service, advocacy, and creating pathways for others to succeed.
What inspired you to say yes to serving on the Board of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce?

I was thrilled to be asked to serve on the Board because the Chamber’s mission reflects both my professional commitment to advocacy and my dedication to Houston’s LGBTQ+ community. In my practice as an immigration attorney, I work closely with individuals and families whose journeys often implicate issues such as identity, safety, and belonging, including many LGBTQ+ clients.
As a longtime member, I know the Chamber plays a vital role in uplifting LGBTQ+ professionals and business owners, and I’m honored to help advance that important work in one of the most diverse regions of the world.
Tell us a little about your professional background and what you’re most passionate about in your work.
I am the Managing Shareholder at Gonzalez Olivieri LLC, where I focus my legal practice on complex immigration matters, including representation on cases before multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court. I’m passionate about helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the immigration system with clarity and dignity, especially during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. What inspires me most is building trust with my clients and empowering them to pursue stability, opportunity, and their own version of the American dream.

What does “community leadership” mean to you?
To me, community leadership means using my experience and platform to uplift others and give them the support they need to succeed. Whether through my work as Chair‑Elect of the State Bar of Texas’ Immigration and Nationality Law Section, offering frequent CLEs to empower attorneys, or partnering with local organizations to combat immigration fraud, I see leadership as a responsibility to protect and educate our community. It’s about showing up consistently, sharing knowledge, and advocating for fairness where it’s most needed.
Ultimately, community leadership is the commitment to create safer and more inclusive spaces for everyone.
His Journey to the Chamber
Ross’s connection to the Chamber grew through his work advocating for vulnerable communities and supporting LGBTQ+ individuals seeking safety, opportunity, and belonging. His perspective underscores why the Chamber’s work is especially critical in this moment.
How did you first connect with the Chamber?
I first connected with the Chamber through the asylum advocacy work my firm, Gonzalez Olivieri LLC, does on behalf of LGBTQ individuals. As an inaugural member business, our firm has long been committed to protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community, and that work naturally led us into partnership with the Chamber, as well as with several of its members.
Through collaborating on advocacy efforts and seeing firsthand the impact the Chamber has—not just for LGBTQ+ professionals, but for the broader Houston community—I developed a deep respect for the organization. That early collaboration grew into an ongoing relationship grounded in shared values of equality, access to justice, and meaningful community impact.
Why do you believe the Chamber’s work is especially important in today’s economic and social climate?
Although the LGBTQ+ community has made real progress in the past several years, there is still significant work ahead. At a time when economic uncertainty and social tensions continue to affect marginalized groups, the Chamber stands out as a rational, steady, and effective partner. Its work strengthens economic inclusion, supports vulnerable community members, and advocates for social justice in a focused and impactful way. In today’s climate, having an organization that brings people together and pushes for practical, meaningful change is more important than ever.
What excites you most about being part of this organization right now?
I am extremely excited to be part of the Chamber now, not only as a small business owner, but also as a happily married gay man who feels grounded and confident in his place in the world. Being part of this organization allows me to bring that sense of purpose, pride, and self‑worth into my professional life while contributing to something bigger than myself.
What energizes me most is the opportunity to help foster that same confidence in the rising generation of community members, showing them that they too belong, they too matter, and they too can lead. The Chamber provides a powerful platform for lifting one another up, and I’m grateful to be part of that work.

Board Leadership and Impact
Ross brings both professional expertise and deeply personal commitment to his Board service—along with a clear vision for strengthening opportunity, visibility, and support for LGBTQ+ and allied businesses.

What perspective, skills, or lived experience do you hope to bring to the Board?
I hope to bring my perspective as a small business owner and as an immigration attorney who advocates every day for minorities and the voiceless. My work centers on helping people who often lack representation, and that experience shapes how I approach leadership and community service. I also bring the lived experience of a happily married gay man who has navigated his own journey toward self‑acceptance and pride. Having moved from struggle to confidence in my identity, I want to use that experience to strengthen the Board’s work and help empower others in our community to lead with authenticity and purpose.
What issues or opportunities for the LGBTQ+ and Allied community are most important to you?

The issues that matter most to me are those that ensure every LGBTQ+ person feels safe, seen, and supported. In my work as an immigration attorney, I’ve seen firsthand how identity, safety, and belonging are often intertwined, and I believe our community thrives when we strengthen protections, expand economic opportunity, and create pathways for genuine inclusion. I also see incredible opportunity in bringing LGBTQ+ professionals and allies together to build networks that uplift small businesses, empower emerging leaders, and foster an environment where every person can live and work with dignity and pride.
How do you hope your Board service will make a difference for members and the broader community?
I sincerely hope my Board service helps create a stronger, more connected, and more empowered community by ensuring that every LGBTQ+ and allied member feels supported and truly seen. Through my work in immigration and community advocacy, I have learned how vital it is to give people the tools, information, and encouragement they need to navigate challenges confidently.
My goal is to help the Chamber expand its reach, strengthen protections and opportunities for our most vulnerable members, and build pathways for emerging leaders to step into their own power. Ultimately, I want my service to help cultivate a Chamber where every person in our community can thrive, contribute, and feel proud.
Celebrating a Decade of Impact
Joining the Board during the Chamber’s milestone anniversary year makes Ross’s leadership especially meaningful as the organization reflects on its past and builds toward its next decade of impact.
The Chamber is celebrating its 10-Year Anniversary this year. What does this milestone mean to you personally?
The Chamber’s 10‑year anniversary feels deeply meaningful to me because it represents a decade of progress, resilience, and community-building that has helped so many LGBTQ+ professionals feel a sense of belonging in Houston. As someone who has grown into my own confidence and pride over the years, this milestone is a reminder of how far we have come and how powerful it can be when we create spaces where people can succeed as their full, authentic selves.
Personally, it’s an honor to be part of the Chamber at this moment in its history, contributing to the legacy of an organization that has made such a real difference in people’s lives and continues to open doors for the next generation.
When you reflect on the last decade of progress for the Chamber, what stands out most?

When I look back on the Chamber’s last decade, what stands out most is how intentionally and consistently it has built a true sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ professionals across the greater Houston area. The Chamber did not simply grow in size. Instead, it grew in impact, creating a space where people could network, build businesses, and show up authentically without hesitation or fear.
The Chamber has elevated marginalized voices, strengthened economic opportunities, and helped shape a more inclusive and confident community. That steady, values‑driven progress is what makes the organization so special, and it’s what inspires me to be part of its next chapter.
Why do milestones like this matter for visibility, sustainability, and long-term impact?
Milestones like this matter because they remind us not only of how far the Chamber has come, but of the visibility and validation it has helped create for LGBTQ+ professionals over time. Celebrating a decade of impact reinforces the Chamber’s staying power by showing members, partners, and the broader community that this work is not fleeting, but is instead, built on a strong foundation that will sustain future growth. Moments like these also help galvanize support, attract new allies, and inspire long‑term investment, ensuring that the Chamber can continue driving meaningful change for years to come.
As we reflect on the Chamber’s first ten years, what do you think is most important to protect, grow, or strengthen moving forward?
As we honor the incredible previous ten years, I think it is essential to protect and advance the Chamber’s core commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and empowering space for LGBTQ+ professionals. At the same time, we should grow our capacity to support small businesses and emerging leaders, ensuring the Chamber continues to be a catalyst for economic opportunity and community resilience.
Looking forward, I believe that strengthening our advocacy efforts will be key to sustaining long‑term impact and making sure the Chamber remains a trusted champion for equality, inclusion, and meaningful connection in Houston.
In one word, what do you hope defines the Chamber’s next decade?
Empowerment.

Looking Ahead
Ross’s vision for the Chamber’s future reflects both optimism and intention.
As the Chamber enters its next decade, what excites you most about the future?
What excites me most about the Chamber’s next decade is the opportunity to build on a strong foundation and expand our impact in ways that meaningfully improve the lives of LGBTQ+ professionals in Houston. I am energized by the potential to grow our network, elevate new leaders, and strengthen the support systems that help our community feel confident, connected, and empowered. Most of all, I am excited to see the Chamber continue shaping a future where every LGBTQ+ person has a place to thrive, lead, and contribute to a more inclusive and vibrant Houston.
What do you hope the Chamber is known for ten years from now?
I hope the Chamber is known ten years from now as a driving force that redefined what inclusive economic empowerment looks like in Houston. A decade from now, I want people to point to the Chamber as the place where LGBTQ+ professionals, small business owners, and allies found not only opportunity, but confidence, community, and a clear path to leadership. My vision is that the Chamber becomes a national model for how to build networks that uplift the most vulnerable, open doors that once seemed closed, and foster a culture where authenticity is an asset instead of an obstacle.
How can members, partners, and allies play a role in shaping what comes next?
Members, partners, and allies play a vital role in shaping what comes next by showing up consistently with a shared commitment to uplifting the entire community. Their engagement helps expand opportunities for LGBTQ+ professionals, strengthen the networks that sustain small businesses, and ensure that the Chamber remains connected to the real needs and voices of its members.
By mentoring emerging leaders, investing in inclusive economic growth, and advocating for equality in their own spheres of influence, they help build the momentum that will define the Chamber’s next decade. Ultimately, the future of the Chamber is strongest when everyone leans in together, using their resources, expertise, and lived experiences to move the community forward.
