ABOUT THE FIESTAS PATRIAS INTERNATIONAL PARADE
Founded in 1969 by The Honorable Judge Armando V.Rodriguez, a trailblazing civic leader, community advocate, and one of Houston’s earliest Latino elected officials.
The Fiestas Patrias International Parade stands as one ofHouston’s longest-running and most beloved cultural traditions. It has long been a vibrant symbol of Latino pride and unity, bringing together thousands to honor our heritage, culture, and contributions to the City of Houston.
The parade has showcased traditional folklórico dancers, mariachis, colorful floats, mounted horseback riders, lowriderclubs, school marching bands, and prominent Latino leaders.
Held each September in Downtown Houston, the Fiestas Patrias Parade has historically aligned with the week of Mexican Independence Day (September 16). Over time, it has expanded to embrace the full diversity of Latin America. Countries such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile, and Belize, which also celebrate their independence in September, are an beloved part of the celebration, reinforcing cultural unity and pan-Latin pride.
