FAMILIES WITH PRIDE: HOUSTON’S INCLUSIVE FAMILY FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH MORE TO LOVE IN 2025

Council Member Kamin’s family-friendly event set for October 18th at Discovery Green®

Houston, Texas – Houston families are invited to celebrate and play at the fourth-annual Families with Pride festival, returning to Discovery Green® on Saturday, October 18, 9am-12pm with more fun activities, and more ways to connect than ever before.

Created by Council Member Abbie Kamin in partnership with the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, and Discovery Green®, the event provides a safe, joyful space for LGBTQIA+ families and allies to come together in the heart of downtown Houston.

“This is all about Houston families—ensuring everyone feels welcomed, celebrated, and respected for who they are,” said Council Member Abbie Kamin. “I proudly stand with our LBTQIA+ families, and I am grateful to all of our partners, including the Chamber and Discovery Green, sponsors, and law enforcement for making Families with Pride one of the most highly anticipated kid-friendly events in our city.”

"Families with Pride celebrates the vibrant diversity, love, and resilience of LGBTQ+ and allied families," said Tammi Wallace, Co-Founder, President & CEO of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce. "This annual event is a powerful statement that every family deserves to be visible, valued, and embraced, and we’re deeply grateful to Council Member Abbie Kamin for her leadership and partnership in making it possible."

This year’s event packs in brand-new activations designed to entertain every age group:

  • Kids Costume Party with prizes from Michael’s Cookie Jar
  • Proud Puppy Paw-ty & Costume Contest (11:00 a.m.)
  • Pride Storytime (9:30 a.m.)
  • Special performances by the Pride Band
  • Arts & crafts, face painting, magicians, balloon & bubble artists, stilt walkers, jugglers, and a live DJ

Families can enjoy Discovery Green’s playgrounds and water fountains, as well as interactive booths featuring community partners including Hi Red Bird (with live animals and reptiles), the Houston Parks Department (free plant giveaways), The Montrose Center, Equality Texas, Legacy Community Health, Grace Place, Tony’s Place, Out for Education, and the Banner Project's collaboration with University of Houston and Rice University featuring the “History of Pride.”

Picture-perfect photo-ops include giant LOVE and HOU letters, a rainbow balloon arch, and an oversized puppy installation. Local food trucks and vendors will be onsite with plenty of snacks and treats.
