At the Chamber, we refer to this as "intentional spending" when you intentionally choose to spend your dollars with businesses and organizations that share your values of diversity, equity, and inclusion and support the LGBTQ+ community. Southwest Psychotherapy Associates (SWPA) was founded in 1986 by Micki Grimland, LCSW, ACSW and serves clients via physical offices in Houston, virtually statewide, and with limited coaching services nationally and internationally. The practice was founded to serve clients by leveraging a curated collective of expertise. The therapists at SWPA have chosen to be in practice together because of their mutual respect for one another’s competence and their shared commitment to the values of safety, wholeness, professionalism, and agency.
In March of 2022, Ty David Lerman, PhD, LPC-S, CST, QTAP (he/him) became owner of SWPA after practicing with the group since 2016. His vision for SWPA is to grow the practice to include consistent community programming like recurring group therapy sessions, a book club for clients to share learning experiences, and workshops and seminars for clients and practitioners alike to learn in a supportive environment.
